Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Today, I'm sharing my chocolate chip banana bread recipe with you guys! Grab those bananas that have sat on the counter for the past week and get excited!

OK, Banana bread.. A classic favourite. Where can you go wrong? You can't! Unless you don't like banana bread, of course.. Then I suppose you can. I love all things bread.. sweet breads, savoury breads- if bread is an option- I'm choosing bread. There's no exception when it comes to my own baking! Some of my favourite recipes to make are loaves and sweet breads! So I thought, is there any better classic loaf than banana loaf! Chocolate chips added because, well- they're great.

I remember as a young child coming home from school and smelling my Mom's Banana bread and nearly having a conniption whenever I did! She didn't make it often, but when she did- it was gone in five minutes.. I'd be lucky if I could even make it to the kitchen before my siblings ate it all. My Mom didn't believe in using overripe or brown bananas because simply, she didn't like overripe or brown bananas so why would she put them in her baking, right? Haha. Regardless, we thought it was fantastic- better yet, everyone knew her for it! The memories of her banana bread are still strong and influence my recipe today!

Onto the recipe we go!

Vegan Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Yields: 1 9x5 loaf (9-12 slices)


  • 4 mashed overripe bananas

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup Vegan margarine (I used vegan Becel)

  • 1 3/4 cups flour

  • 3-4 tbsp of almond or other nut milk (depending on dryness of mixture)

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 3/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • *optional:* 2/3 cups vegan chocolate chips (I used Enjoy Life)

  • *optional:* sprinkle of cinnamon for topping


Preheat oven to 350 degrees, prepare and grease a loaf pan.

Mash bananas in a large mixing bowl, using a potato masher or fork. Add your wet ingredients: 1/4 cup vegan margarine, 3-4 tbsp nut milk,1 tsp vanilla. Combine!

Next, mix in your sugar. Then add: 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 3/4 tsp salt, 1 3/4 cups flour. Combine those and fold in your chocolate chips being careful not to over-


Pour your batter into your pan and bake it for about an hour at first. Check it in an hour, poke it with a toothpick to see if it comes out clean. if it does, it's done! If not, bake for another 10 -12 minutes. If still not finished, continue testing in small increments until your loaf is done!

Let it cool for about a half hour before digging in!

Now, pour yourself a glass of almond milk and enjoy!
